Stripes, Stripes, and More Stripes!

Happy Friday #follygirls!

I hope you're all doing well this Friday afternoon. We finally are getting some rain in Portland today! Its finally staring to feel like fall and I'm loving it.

Today also marked my first pumpkin spice latte of the season. While I hate to admit it.. I really am such a sucker for that sweet pumpkin-y goodness. I'm sorry! I swear I support my local coffee shops 99% of the time...

Moving on...we have so many cute fall pieces in the store currently; and I can't wait to show you all! I'm not sure about you... but I LOVE stripes. Especially striped tops. Starting off with one of my personal favorites- the Beth Top in Newton Stripe!

Here's a little layout of what I'd wear with this Beth top!

Other striped tops were loving right now include Classico Stripes, Lumi Cowl in Boston, and Lumi Cowl in Nate stripe. Call me a zebra because I'm gonna be in all stripes this fall!

I love how a striped top can be dressed up or down, and goes with a wide variety of different bottoms.

Do you wear your stripes with other patterns? Or with solid colors? Let me know in the comments; I'm curious to hear.

I tend to pair my stripes with plain bottoms, but for example- this Natalie vest in Pinz with matching Davis pants totally changes my mind! I think the matching stripes set looks so cute here paired with a black top underneath.

Even though I wear stripes all year round, I do think there's something about a striped top that just screams fall. I'm not sure why...

Maybe subconsciously I think of Charlie Brown when I think of Fall, and a lot of Charlie Brown characters wear stripes...

Who knows why!?

But speaking of Charlie Brown and fall- did you all see the new bags by Busy Mushroom we just put out!?

So FREAKING CUTE!

Before I sign off for the day, lets pair The Charlie Brown Bag with some new fall favs!

That's all I have for you today. I hope you all have a fantastic rest of your day!

Falling into Fall

Happy Friday #follygirls!

We're falling into Fall over here at Folly.

I wanted to talk about some new fall items we have! Starting off strong, we have our Patricia blazer in District! The Patricia is a fitted and easy blazer that layers just right over dresses or your favorite jeans. A blazer is a great cardigan alternative. Check out our blog post all about blazers and why we love them!

Wear this Patricia blazer with jeans, dresses, or pair it with our MATCHING Miles Pants for the cutest suit ever!

The Miles District Pants have a twisted seam, and you'll be twisting heads with how amazingggg you look in these trousers. The twisted seam gives them the cool dungaree shape! These pants are cute and comfy for work or play.

Don't forget to send us pics of you in your Folly clothes! Whether you're working or playing, snap a pic and DM us at @follypdx to be featured.

#twinning with our mannequin Stella!
#twinning with Stella!

And if you're wondering what top our model is wearing with the matching set... that would be the Darline Top in Olive Dot! This Darline top is so darlin'.

Next I want to show you these perfect fall sweaters that just came in!

Walda Sweater - Slate Blue

Wosha Sweater - Brickish

If you've been looking for a comfy and cute solid colored sweater, look no further. These classic long sleeve sweater/ tees have a thermal/ waffle-knit like texture; keeping you warm and feeling like your wearing your PJ's!

Before I leave, I must also show you all our new Gemma pants in Petite Chouette and the Trista in Capo.

Gemma Pants
Trista Pants

These pants are giving cuteness! They're giving fall! The best part about both of them? They have elastic waistbands! There's no need to compromise comfort and coziness for looking fashionable.

At Folly, we say "life is hard, your clothes should be soft."

Come on down to Folly and get your cozy fall pieces now!

Aya's poem of the week:

Falling into fall,

It's time to grab a shall!

I get in my car,

but I don't have to drive far.

I step into Folly

and exclaim "Gosh Golly!"

The colors seem to shine just for me.

I leave with a sweater and newfound glee

as I have discovered the world of folly.

Seasonal Changes & Clothing Changes

Happy Thursday #follygirls!

We hope you're having a great week.

Today I want to talk about transitional pieces as we head into fall.

If you're thinking: “hold up Aya… it's still August”

You'd be correct…but fall is right around the corner!

And if Starbucks releases their Pumpkin Spice Latte at the end of August (August 26th to be exact... I looked it up), then I’d say August is a respectable time to talk about fall.

So let's jump in shall we?!

We just put out our Beth top in Newton Stripe, and let me say- these colors scream cozy fall!

The Beth top has a split neck, with 3/4 sleeve with cuffs. The fabric on this Beth top is soooo soft and amazingly lightweight.

I think the Beth top is a great example of a piece of clothing that can serve you well in almost any season. It's great to have now in August while its still warm, but will soon be getting too chilly in the evenings for just a short sleeve. Throw this buttery soft Beth top on, and you'll stay comfy and cute!

Another new piece we put out is the Lumi Cowl top in Nate Stripe! This Lumi is stretchy, slinky, and soft.

In the photos, Sarah is wearing the Lumi Cowl with the Miles Felipe pants. I also think this top would go great with black or blue jeans! My personal fall fashion go-to is a striped top with black pants. You can never go wrong with a striped top; a timeless classic.

And imagine this Lumi paired with our Adelia Coat in Draper on top- so chic! The Adelia is a great transitional item as we head into fall. The Adelia is intended for a loose n easy fit and has HUGE pockets! These are super limited! Everything is cut and sewn, so when these are gone, they are gone!

Yes, we still have some summer left, so make sure to go out and soak in the Portland sun before it goes away! While we love the sun, we're also so excited for fall and to release more of our fall items. So stay tuned for more Folly!

Aya's haiku of the week:

September leaves speak,

telling August to wrap up;

impatient for change.

Best,

Aya

Kicking off Fall with Fade to Light!

We’re really starting to feel some hints of fall in Portland in the last week or so. The light is changing, the wildfire smoke has cleared off of the city, and we’ve finally gotten some sprinkles of rain here and there. We love a season change at Folly, and we were so excited to be able to kick off our fall collection with the semi annual Fade to Light fashion show where we can experiment with new styles and designs.

Sarah Bibb’s collection made an entrance first with a lighthearted short video centering around the idea that bright colors don’t have to die off at the end of summer, and in fact, we should keep vivid fashion around for the often grey and gloomy Portland fall days. Doesn’t that just make sense? Check out the video below!

Her runway collection was full of playful, yet sporty designs aiming to bring a cheerful mood to the start of fall. The first look out was a teal velvet bra and panties set paired with a kimono style jacket in an abstract printed silk organza.

Next out was a hot pink exaggerated turtleneck paired with a black jumper featuring some oversized buttons. This hot pink dress echoed the silhouette featured in the opening video. I love this idea of a neon pink dress in a fall collection! Following this theme, you can expect to find bright solids and prints along with button details in our in-store fall collection!

The next look down the runway was a bright teal hoody paired with a flowy black patterned skirt with a pop of tulle peeking out. This was a fun way to pair a casual sweatshirt with a more feminine skirt to give a unique and playful look. The fabric of the Mina Skirt is one of our favorites this year! Both of these pieces are very versatile and can be mixed and matched to give a more dressy or cozy feel. Stop by the shop to come check out the Audrey Hoody and Mina Skirt!

Another piece from the runway that's now available for you in-store is the Mary Tunic! For the runway, we paired this with some ombre tights, but for every day, this tunic pairs really nicely with some of our Tummy Tuck Leggings. This tunic is a great way to feel cozy and comfortable, but still look cute!

Next up was a teal velvet tank featuring an exaggerated turtleneck and a silver lining paired with a silk organza mid-length circle skirt lined with a golden yellow silk. The silver lining on the tank gave her an intergalactic type of feel, while still feeling very fall being paired with teal and golden hues. This look was so fun and lighthearted, yet sophisticated and sexy! Come check out these ombre tights we have in the shop too!

Following the theme of velvet and extra long turtlenecks, the next look featured a pink velvet tank paired with a black corduroy jumper with oversized red buttons down the front. I love this look, especially how the ombre tights work with the black jumper to create a seamless gradient.

Second to last was a really fun jumper in a black based print paired with a corduroy bow belt. The wide legs of this jumper move really nicely and gave a balance to the more fitted, strapless top. This fabric is gorgeous and has so many beautiful fall colors! Check out this fabric in one of our Fiona dresses available in the shop!

Lastly, the most dressy and festive piece made an entrance! This look was a one shoulder teal velvet dress with a flowy skirt and silk organza lining. We paired this with a corduroy bow belt, ombre mermaid tights, and the most perfect turquoise pumps to create a seamlessly gorgeous look.

A big thank you to Ama Hathaway for these beautiful photos!
We love the idea of having the runway collection inspire the fall collection we have for you in the store! There will definitely be more fun and colorful pieces inspired by elements of Sarah’s Fade to Light collection coming soon, so stay tuned!

XOXO,
Folly Girl Hope

Season Transition: Late Summer Color Palette

One of our favorite things about season transitions is playing with a new color palettes! We’ve been loving tones of ochre, golden, and red-orange hues paired with neutrals like metallics, black, and white. This striped Trista Top just came in a couple days ago and we love it paired with these super hi-rise Rusty Fiora Jeans and the Kimono Clutch in Deco. These colors feel like a perfect transition from late summer to early fall!

We're loving this light and bright summer look featuring Sarah Bibb’s Silversmith Hez Tee and Manzanita Lauren Cardigan for when you need just a little something over your shoulders. This Manzanita fabric is the perfect weight for a cool summer morning or beach-side breeze, and this black and white stripe is easy and neutral enough to throw over just about any outfit.

Sarah Bibb’s new Tina Dress in Dex Dot is a great piece that’s almost seasonless and this fabric has a lot of great accent colors you can play off of like the light peach, coral, cobalt, and lavender dots. Pair it with our Rusty Branch Mini Obi Belt and Tera Cotta Seed Bead Earrings to draw out that burnt coral color and make the outfit complete. You can even match your slip since we have some Alice Ivory and Coral Slips on sale in-store!

Another great transition color we’re excited about this year is teal! Sarah Bibb’s newest Jamie Dress in Montage is a perfect way to introduce happy, bright colors in your wardrobe that can easily transform into a more fall look with some tights and boots. This print is amazing because it has a good mix of bright and more subdued hues, and the print is small enough that it kind of creates a tiled type of feel. Very flattering and of course super comfortable and practical!

We love summer as much as any Portlander, but I gotta say, we’re starting to get a little excited for fall fashion. I have been wearing boots almost every day with summer dresses! Introducing some of these colors into your wardrobe is a nice way to ease into late summer and embrace the season transition!

Stop by to check out our new arrivals and try on some of these stylish outfits!

Perfect Transition Pieces to Carry you Through Summer and Fall!

The perfect light weight cardigan! The Lauren Cardi is a Folly Favorite. So soft and easy. Perfect on cool summer evenings or in your arctic A/C blasting office building. Fantastic as an every day layer in the fall!
Looks great over dresses, tees, everything in between.

Graphic B&W! The perfect compliment to bright summer shades and a wonderful statement print in a monochrome outfit. The Caroline Tee is one of our staples because its slim, just to the hip, and so flattering. Great tucked into a skirt or paired with your favorite jeans.

We love a black base floral. Romantic, classic, easy to wear. Sleeveless = great for hot summer days. So cute with a white or light grey pant! Sleeveless also means great under a blazer in the fall! We love pieces you can wear year round and the Pepper Tie Top is no exception!

I'm a little obsessed with this Georgie Tunic...how could I not be? It matches my glasses! The perfect swing tunic. Cute and breezy and great with leggings and booties too. The dusty primrose print is so season neutral. Love it! Would be sooooo adorable with a denim jacket and a brown cowboy boot.
