Folly on NE Fremont!

Wow. I am loooooving NE Fremont Street and the amazing community of Beaumont Village!

Everyone has been so welcoming and cheerful about folly joining the street and it feels great! I am so happy to meet everyone and excited to dress a lot of new lovely people!

Come see me soon! Spring is an exciting time to fluff your existing wardrobe with some colorful new pieces. Plus, did you hear 2022 has the most weddings scheduled since 1984!?!  It makes me wonder what was going on in 1984! Anyway, are you invited to any weddings?  You know we love making dresses that are comfortable but also super festive and wedding season is a funzone season at folly! We are making new things everyday and I'm doing the best I can to get things online but for the first time in years I have to admit I am behind in this endeavor. I hope you can make it into the beautiful new shop and see everything we have to offer! Plus I love to see YOU!

Make sure your friends know I have moved!

Okay, wow! LOTS of BIG news to share!

Blogging has fallen to the wayside and that's too bad since I have had a TON of things to share!

How can I catch you up and not bore you to tears? Well, I'll just start with the biggest news EVER!

Folly MOVED!!!

Yes, here we are February 2022 and Folly has a new location.  My absolute dream space in Portland is now mine! I'm right on the corner of NE Fremont and 41st and it is gorgeous.

Folly will be opening on 02-22-2022!! What? Is that the cutest most "folly" sort of day to open... and it's a Tuesday!  The hits keep coming. :)

I have been closed and building the new store since the middle of January and I'm exhausted and anxious for everything to finally come together so I can get the doors open and see my favorite #follygirls again and meet all the new people in this fantastic neighborhood!

It's exciting and I guess everything else that happened in between my last post and this one sort of pales in comparison!

Can't wait to see you soon.

oxox. Sarah

We added a peep hole in the new wall so you can see what's happening in production! It's so cute!
Left: me on key day 2008 in front of OG folly in NW Portland!
Right: me on key day of folly 2.0 in NE Portland!

I love making beautiful clothing you love to wear! Let's show NE Portland some funzone folly flair!
I can't wait to dress you again soon.

Look at this cute painting of folly and gift guide part 2

Really loving this beautiful painting of the folly storefront by Portland artist, Jenna Lechner. I think she perfectly captured the essence of folly! I found the perfect spot to hang this painting so next time you visit you can see it in person!

I love making a festive holiday window and am really happy with how this one came out. It's hard to see all the special stuff of a window display from far away and I have learned it's much more about an overall vibe unless you are up close! I love the plaid in the background and all the cute presents. The center tree is on a turning platform but I swear it turns so slow that no one even notices! For someone not much into subtlety that tree is taunting me! hahah.
The message is simple and sweet... GIVE GOOD GIFTS! I love to help you pick out gifts that I think have a very good chance of being well received. I love a useful gift, a cozy gift, a thoughtful gift!  And I listen to what people say about things all year so I do feel pretty qualified to give advice about all these goodies.
Everyday Cap $18 - this beanie is one of those funny things that everyone loves, Cashmere socks $38 always a great gift, Heart barrettes $18/pair cute lil stocking stuffer, Fingerless gloves $18 love and we sell out of these every year,  Cele earrings $68 I think these are so pretty on everyone
Cele necklace $68 if you like the earrings you will love the necklace too.. I don't recommend giving a set but the style is so cute. Biggie claw = awesome $22,  Skinny Bangles.. these are so good! mix and match a few sets and keep some, give some! sets of 7 for $45
This beautiful Dua Scarf is amazing... it is super light and airy viscose with a touch of cashmere and two prints that are both stunning $148, another great biggie claw $22, Pavi Earrings $48 these are also an absolute no-brainer for any style person!
Love the Thalia scarf $98 we have many different prints available and it is a perfect gift!

Shopping small this year is more important than ever before... do I say that every year? Maybe! But this year is truly special. As you know all small business have faced tremendous difficulties in 2020..... we pivot and pivot until we are dizzy! I am so incredibly grateful for my #follygirl community who show me so much love and support. I feel like folly will be fine and in the end I'm sure there will be parts that I will be grateful for but it is a lot of work. I love being a refuge from the world for my customers and feel really proud of the deep bonds I have formed with women all over the country.

Every small biz has a website these days and I am simply encouraging you to visit them directly vs. shopping on amazon, etc... Don't be lured in by a glossy instagram ad that takes you to a mysterious website... visit a small business in your immediate community and buy something and then tell someone you did it! Sharing on instagram/fb, etc is free and does so much to encourage us to keep going.

I love making clothing you love to wear year after year. I feel so proud of the production that we manage to pull off right here in the back of the shop.  I hope to be able to do this for a bit longer!

xoxo. Sarah

Always happy to wrap a present for you! I actually really love doing it.

detail from the window... so cute!
We make our infinity scarves every year too.. they are amazing and I save some favorite pieces of fabric all year so they can meet their final destination in a single loop infinity scarf $68 and those perfect skinny bangles! $45 for set of 7.

It's time for a Summer SALE at folly.

It's hard to believe (or accept the fact) that Summer is coming to a close... I mean, it's not really coming to a close but the fashion calendar marches on! We are starting to get in a few Fall transition pieces and have started to move our production in that direction. We are spending most days working on new styles to roll out as the temperatures cool.
Let's face it, July is sort of the January of Summer for retail and there is something kind of great about having the time to make plans, take inventory, and begin the shift towards something new. It's been a funny season with lots of amazing Summer teases all Spring but somehow Summer never got off the ground.. Hey Mother Nature, what gives? Oh well, it's sort of old School PDX to have grey mornings that burn off into beautiful sunsets. No complaining (I say this to myself over and over)!
There hasn't been time to mark things down online so you really will have to just come down and dig through the bins/racks in person. We went pretty heavy with the discounts and most things are around 50% off! Yeeps! Come and get it!

Dresses, Dresses & even more dresses for all your favorite Spring Flings

Okay.... it IS Spring even if the darn sun refuses to come out (in Portland)! Ugh.... I don't like to wait but then I have to remember that Spring/Summer is a long season and there is so much time ahead to enjoy warm skin and a cool breeze. For now, however, we have a ton of super cute and bright colored tights to keep your sweet legs warm and also add a much needed pop of color to these grey days.

I love dresses. You know that right? Weddings and parties and just being the prettiest girl in line for a coffee, that is the follygirl spirit. Why not? Life is short and we are loaded up with maxi dresses and beyond! Aren't you stoked that sneakers/flats are now the true norm to wear with dresses? I swear, I have been telling  you for AGES to just wear some chucks with your dresses but now it is a full tilt trend and so with all that validation there is no excuse! YAY.
Enjoy the sun.
check out all of our dresses HERE (also, more in-store... always)!

 TIGHTS AND TIGHTS!
Add a pop of color to any of our fun dresses and start enjoying wearing your favorite new Spring styles now... why wait for the sun?  We love a pop of color if you are wearing all black too!
These Tabbisocks tights are made in Japan and super nice quality and reasonable price.
check out all of our socks and tights HERE

We love to dress you for all your occasions from work to weddings!

Wedding Season is coming!

Well, it happens every year .... Wedding Season! It's pretty much like the first indicator of Spring, even before the buds of the cherry blossoms have popped we hear our first requests for "dresses to wear to a wedding". Now that it's April (!!!) it is truly time to start shopping for the dresses and jumpsuits to wear to all your Spring/Summer occasions. Yes, we will have tons more dresses to come but it's a good idea to get on it sooner than later so you have all your options. Plus if you score the perfect dress now just think of all the future fun you can have shopping for other things instead of stressing about the perfect dress.

Our absolute #1 dress to wear to a wedding is the Nora Dress.... time tested and twirl worthy, the Nora is comfortable and appropriate for pretty much any occasion.
We always have multiple prints available in the Nora!  check out our current selection here (there are usually a few more in store too) Nora Dresses

Our other favorites for wedding season are the Sarah Dress and the Fiona Dress... both of these have a longer, dolman sleeve and for anyone wanting a little extra arm coverage (hello... me!) you will love these two. The Sarah Dress has the signature asymmetrical hem like the Nora and the Fiona falls about knee length with a traditional A-Line skirt. Both so so so beautiful.

Shop FIONA Dresses here.

It's a little harder to search for Sarah Dresses on our site.... that's what happens when you name a dress after yourself, huh! Ack.
But they are peppered through the DRESSES section and hey, it's a good time to see all the other stuff too.

and of course never forget the slip!! We make the best slips around and they are comfortable and breathable and meant to be worn every day!
Any of the chiffon dresses we make will work well with one of our great slips. If you have a dress that needs a slip, bring it in and we can help solve that puzzle with you!

Wedding season will be a hot topic for a bit so I'll post more later... I do love the idea of a jumpsuit for a wedding and we have those too... stay tuned!
xoxo. Sarah

P.S. If you are new here we make about 40% of what we carry right here in the store! All the Fiona, Sarah, Nora dresses are made here... isn't that cool!?! xoox.

Take a Peek at Sarah Bibb’s Spring Collection in the Shift into Style Fashion Show

What a great way start to 2019! Earlier this month, Sarah Bibb debuted the start of her spring collection at the Shift into Style Fashion Show hosted by Mercedes Benz of Wilsonville alongside some of our other favorite Portland designers. We were honored to be able to work with so many talented people and send our newest designs down the runway.

First up is one of our favorite new designs called the Tootie - a short sleeve two-tone style wrap dress with a cute collar and tie at the waist paired with one of Sarah Bibb’s signature beaded necklaces. This mixing of prints and color is a theme we’re having a lot of fun with this season and there will definitely be more of this to come, so stay tuned!

Tootie Wrap Dress - (sold out but more coming soon!)

The next look down the runway was the Paulie Dress in Shallow Berry over a Black Ava Slip. This is a super fun dropped waist ruffle dress in a lightweight poly chiffon print. We also have the Paulie available in a two-tone Dottie polka dot and Iznick navy silk print.

For separates, Sarah sent down the velvet Toni Top with a pair of our favorite Olive Liza skinny jeans. The Toni Top is extra fun and flowy, and can easily be dressed up or down! So chic!

Up next was one of Sarah Bibb’s newest styles, the Moreau Maxi Skirt paired with an Animal Turtleneck and Bow Belt. We’re loving this extra long ruffle and Monterey teal color paired with this perfectly tiny Animal print fabric, now available in the Dawn Tee!

Moreau Maxi Skirt + Animal Turtleneck + Bow Belt

The Fiona Dusk graced us next, with a bold pop of cobalt at the waist and pink crochet tights! We love the Fiona, a tried and true style that never fails to be just gorgeous.

Next up, an SB classic, the Meredith! Flowy and loose in the back with a fitted front and sash at the waist, this Meredith is just stunning and so unique. We’ve got just one of these in stock so stop by to try this one on before it’s gone!

Second to last was the Dahlia in a graphic Rome print with a pop of a dusty purple floral silk peeking out from the bottom ruffle. So romantic and flowy, you’re sure to see more of this new style this spring!

Dahlia in Rome (sold out, but stay tuned!)

Lastly, one of SB’s classic silk dresses, the Nora Dress in Adriatic. This piece features short sleeves, a sash tied at the waist, and an asymmetrical skirt flowing over an Ava Slip and some pink crochet tights for an extra color pop!

We love being able to share our latest designs with you, and the Shift into Style Fashion Show was a great way to kick off 2019! Check out our latest designs and follow us on Instagram to see what fun styles are in the works for spring!

See you soon Folly Girls!

Obi Belts: Why We Love Them as a Staple Piece for Every Wardrobe!

Have you heard of our Obi Belts? If not, our Obi is a simple wrapping belt that sits at the smallest part of your waist. They’re perfect for accenting your waist or adjusting the fit or shape of a dress. You may have seen leather versions of this belt out in the world, but all of ours are made from 100% Cotton prints making them more comfortable and affordable than a typical leather Obi! It’s also super fun to mix and match the prints with a dress you already have or one you find here! Also, an extra bonus is that ours are made right in the back of our shop! It doesn’t get more local than that!

We offer our Obi Belts in two widths, the original and the mini. The original width is great if you want a little more of the print or just a bolder, more statement-piece kind of look, while the mini is perfect if you’re more petite or short-waisted, or just want a more subdued look. There are probably a few pieces you already have in your wardrobe that these could be a great addition to!

We love pairing them with our babydoll-style Abbie dress if you like the babydoll look but want the waist to feel a little more tailored. They’re also perfect for our Jenni Dress since it has an elastic waist. Our Obis are just the accessory you need to finish off a beautiful and classic look.

Stop by with a piece you already own that you’d like to find the perfect finishing touch for or check out what we’ve got here! The Jenni, Abbie, Fiona, and Venus dresses are all great pairs for an Obi Belt!

See you soon!

XOXO,

Folly Girl Hope
