Shopping local matters more than ever!

Do you ever wonder WHY shopping local matters? There are so many options for clothing online but there is nothing that can replace shopping in your hometown!

Shopping local can have a positive impact on both the local economy and the environment, which is why it matters. Here are a few reasons why:

  1. Local businesses support the local economy: When you shop at a local business, you are supporting the local economy by keeping money within the community. Local businesses are more likely to spend their profits within the community, whether it's by paying employees, buying supplies, or supporting other local businesses. This is true! We shop locally so your dollars go on to support other Portland businesses!

  2. Local businesses create jobs: Small businesses are the largest employer in the United States, and they are responsible for creating a significant number of jobs in local communities. By supporting local businesses, you are helping to create and sustain jobs in your community. Folly employs 3 people AND is my sole source of income so that's 4!

  3. Local businesses are more sustainable: Local businesses are typically more sustainable than larger corporations because they tend to have smaller supply chains and produce fewer emissions. By shopping local, you are supporting businesses that have a smaller environmental footprint. It goes even further because we manufacture on site which allows us to control production more and generate less waste and use fewer fossil fuels associated with shipping, etc...

  4. Local businesses offer unique products and experiences: Local businesses often offer unique products and experiences that you can't find anywhere else. By supporting these businesses, you are helping to preserve the local culture and character of your community. YES, it's all about keeping Portland, Portland! I see overly curated shops on instagram and am stunned that a shop in Peoria looks pretty much just like a shop in LA! Let's keep Portland special!

  5. Local businesses support community organizations: Local businesses are more likely to support community organizations, such as schools, sports teams, and charities. By supporting local businesses, you are indirectly supporting these organizations as well. We donate to school auctions, sponsor a local girls softball team and make donations to local shelters and more!

Overall, shopping local can have a positive impact on the community, the economy, and the environment. By choosing to support local businesses, you can help create a more vibrant and sustainable community for everyone. And let's not forget RELATIONSHIPS! Everyone needs more kind, human contact these days and local shops love to get to know you!

Plus we make the cutest clothes for you! See you soon and someone tell the SUNSHINE to start!

Happy Spring!

Okay, wow! LOTS of BIG news to share!

Blogging has fallen to the wayside and that's too bad since I have had a TON of things to share!

How can I catch you up and not bore you to tears? Well, I'll just start with the biggest news EVER!

Folly MOVED!!!

Yes, here we are February 2022 and Folly has a new location.  My absolute dream space in Portland is now mine! I'm right on the corner of NE Fremont and 41st and it is gorgeous.

Folly will be opening on 02-22-2022!! What? Is that the cutest most "folly" sort of day to open... and it's a Tuesday!  The hits keep coming. :)

I have been closed and building the new store since the middle of January and I'm exhausted and anxious for everything to finally come together so I can get the doors open and see my favorite #follygirls again and meet all the new people in this fantastic neighborhood!

It's exciting and I guess everything else that happened in between my last post and this one sort of pales in comparison!

Can't wait to see you soon.

We added a peep hole in the new wall so you can see what's happening in production! It's so cute!
Left: me on key day 2008 in front of OG folly in NW Portland!
Right: me on key day of folly 2.0 in NE Portland!

I love making beautiful clothing you love to wear! Let's show NE Portland some funzone folly flair!
I can't wait to dress you again soon.

It's time for a Summer SALE at folly.

It's hard to believe (or accept the fact) that Summer is coming to a close... I mean, it's not really coming to a close but the fashion calendar marches on! We are starting to get in a few Fall transition pieces and have started to move our production in that direction. We are spending most days working on new styles to roll out as the temperatures cool.
Let's face it, July is sort of the January of Summer for retail and there is something kind of great about having the time to make plans, take inventory, and begin the shift towards something new. It's been a funny season with lots of amazing Summer teases all Spring but somehow Summer never got off the ground.. Hey Mother Nature, what gives? Oh well, it's sort of old School PDX to have grey mornings that burn off into beautiful sunsets. No complaining (I say this to myself over and over)!
There hasn't been time to mark things down online so you really will have to just come down and dig through the bins/racks in person. We went pretty heavy with the discounts and most things are around 50% off! Yeeps! Come and get it!

Freshness just keeps coming..... oh hey jumpsuits!

Okay, we talk a lot about dresses and everything related to dresses, like slips to wear under your dresses and our great OBI Belts to style your dresses.... yes, we LOVE dresses! You know it and it is true. But you know what else is super cute to wear to a wedding or whatever... a fun jumpsuit! We have a couple of dressy jumpsuits that would be just as appropriate for a festive occasion as a dress and we also have a few casual ones too that would be perfect for travel or work or just kicking it at your favorite happy hour. Let's talk about jumpsuits!
this beauty by LA designer, Eva Franco would be excellent to wear to a wedding... wide, flowy legs and deep V-neck make this super sexy and chic. This jumpsuit is curvy friendly and runs pretty true to size. Check it out HERE $218 & made in USA.

Here's another jumpsuit in the dress-it-up category. We love this one from dRa ... another deep V-neck, pockets, open back, and side slits... this jumpsuit has it all! I think this would be a great piece to wear to a wedding whether in the city or on the beach! check it out HERE.  $164.

Now for a more casual look... we love this jumpsuit from Bel Kazan!  Bel Kazan is a super cool, small clothing line that manufactures in their own facility in Bali & they also screen print their original designs! How cool is that?! Yep, pretty darn cool! This perfect, loose-n-easy fit has pockets and wide, cropped legs. We have it in two colors. Ash & Mustard. Check them out HERE $165.

We have more jumpsuits coming in because this is a trend that is here to stay (at least for another year but I bet even longer because everyone loves a jumpsuit, romper, onesie... whatever you call it)!

Keep checking back for more "what to wear this season" tips!

Wedding Season is coming!

Well, it happens every year .... Wedding Season! It's pretty much like the first indicator of Spring, even before the buds of the cherry blossoms have popped we hear our first requests for "dresses to wear to a wedding". Now that it's April (!!!) it is truly time to start shopping for the dresses and jumpsuits to wear to all your Spring/Summer occasions. Yes, we will have tons more dresses to come but it's a good idea to get on it sooner than later so you have all your options. Plus if you score the perfect dress now just think of all the future fun you can have shopping for other things instead of stressing about the perfect dress.

Our absolute #1 dress to wear to a wedding is the Nora Dress.... time tested and twirl worthy, the Nora is comfortable and appropriate for pretty much any occasion.
We always have multiple prints available in the Nora!  check out our current selection here (there are usually a few more in store too) Nora Dresses

Our other favorites for wedding season are the Sarah Dress and the Fiona Dress... both of these have a longer, dolman sleeve and for anyone wanting a little extra arm coverage (hello... me!) you will love these two. The Sarah Dress has the signature asymmetrical hem like the Nora and the Fiona falls about knee length with a traditional A-Line skirt. Both so so so beautiful.

Shop FIONA Dresses here.

It's a little harder to search for Sarah Dresses on our site.... that's what happens when you name a dress after yourself, huh! Ack.
But they are peppered through the DRESSES section and hey, it's a good time to see all the other stuff too.

and of course never forget the slip!! We make the best slips around and they are comfortable and breathable and meant to be worn every day!
Any of the chiffon dresses we make will work well with one of our great slips. If you have a dress that needs a slip, bring it in and we can help solve that puzzle with you!

Wedding season will be a hot topic for a bit so I'll post more later... I do love the idea of a jumpsuit for a wedding and we have those too... stay tuned!
xoxo. Sarah

P.S. If you are new here we make about 40% of what we carry right here in the store! All the Fiona, Sarah, Nora dresses are made here... isn't that cool!?! xoox.

Sweater Season!

Happy Friday #follygirls! I woke up today and turned on the heat for the first time this season; sweater season is here to stay!  I LOVE swe...
