What To Wear Under What You Wear

Happy Friday #follygirls!

Today I want to talk about “what to wear under what you wear”; that's right, I’m talking about slips!

At Folly we make our Erin Slips in a variety of colors such as Jade, Electric Blue, Sweetest Pink, Black, and Ivory. AND a limited edition hand-dyed slip in Butterscotch!

Slips are not only a functional staple of your closet, but you can also create totally new outfits just by changing the color of the slip you wear underneath! 

Let me show you what we mean:

Here is Heather! A #follygirl who so graciously offered her time to come down to Folly and try on slips for us!

We took lots of photos, and did lots of twirling! We wanted to make a visual of what different colored slips would look like under the same dress. The results? Sarah and I were both impressed at how much a little pop of color underneath changed the dress and created a whole different vibe!

If you're going to own just one slip, have it be the Erin slip in black. A black slip will serve you in so many ways and be an instant closet staple to wear under what you wear!

If you're craving some pizzazz... try switching out the classic black for either jade or electric blue. Or love what Heather's wearing? Come on down and snag yourself a limited edition butterscotch while they're still here! Heather is wearing the Butterscotch Erin under our Dahlia dress.

Do you have a sheer dress and are looking for a slip? We encourage you to bring it in! We could tell you how the colors might look under different dresses, but it's so much better to SHOW you! So don't be afraid to bring some dresses with you the next time you stop into Folly. Color theory is a magical thing, and sometimes trying an unexpected color yields unexpectedly amazing results!!

I encourage everyone not to underestimate the powers and uses of owning at least one slip. I personally love wearing slips under the few sheer dresses I have, and I love even more to wear them around my home for that extra confidence boost. Use your slip for practical, fashionable, or sexy purposes! We like to say here at Folly that the slips are sexy but practical, aka sexypractical™

So go ahead, channel your inner Elizabeth Taylor and strut around!

Wedding Season is coming!

Well, it happens every year .... Wedding Season! It's pretty much like the first indicator of Spring, even before the buds of the cherry blossoms have popped we hear our first requests for "dresses to wear to a wedding". Now that it's April (!!!) it is truly time to start shopping for the dresses and jumpsuits to wear to all your Spring/Summer occasions. Yes, we will have tons more dresses to come but it's a good idea to get on it sooner than later so you have all your options. Plus if you score the perfect dress now just think of all the future fun you can have shopping for other things instead of stressing about the perfect dress.

Our absolute #1 dress to wear to a wedding is the Nora Dress.... time tested and twirl worthy, the Nora is comfortable and appropriate for pretty much any occasion.

Our other favorites for wedding season are the Sarah Dress and the Fiona Dress... both of these have a longer, dolman sleeve and for anyone wanting a little extra arm coverage (hello... me!) you will love these two. The Sarah Dress has the signature asymmetrical hem like the Nora and the Fiona falls about knee length with a traditional A-Line skirt. Both so so so beautiful.

Vintage Style Slips Made in Portland Oregon! Why a Slip? Thought You'd Never Ask!

Oh slips. We love them SO much here at Folly! 

*But why? Aren't slips hot, fussy, and uncomfortable?*

Answer? NO. WAY.

Our slips are made from slinky, stretchy, light, breathable nylon milled in the USA.

They are machine washable! 

I prefer to use a laundry bag and cold water to prolong the life of mine.

We also use only the softest, prettiest lace. No irritation even if you have sensitive skin. And I do!

And...they are incredibly well priced, ranging from $68-$74. 

That's a steal considering the fabric is milled in the USA, we cut each piece of fabric by hand, 

and they are sewn in store! Yup. From start to finish a completely ethical, USA made product.

Well Folly Girl, I'll tell you! 

Made in the USA means each and every worker along the way is paid a fair living wage. 

That means us Folly Worker Bees are paid fairly too!

By buying a product made in our shop, you are supporting a small business!

*What does that REALLY mean?*

Well, it means that I go home and feed my dog with food that I buy at a small, local pet shop! And then I go to YOUR favorite tiny neighborhood coffee shop and get my morning cup o' joe! And, well, that means these places get to stick around! 

Running a business is hard work and costs a lot of money!

Sarah Bibb is famous for her slips. Walk into Anthropologie or Nordstrom's looking for one, and they will send you straight to Folly! We make our slips right here in Oregon. Each slip is made from fabric milled in the USA, and then hand dyed and cut by Sarah Bibb herself. Then she hands them over to Ying, our wonderful sewer! We love having a little Folly Family of makers.
